The vibrant Heart Attack and Stroke Prevention Center hosted by the Skyline Cardiovascular Institute is one of the key offerings that distinguishes SCI from other clinics.

Cardiovascular disease is the top cause of death nationwide and is an enormous economic burden. SCI has decided to attack this silent killer before it causes symptoms. The practice is built around the principles of prevention, and providers work diligently to avoid expensive, invasive procedures. Certainly, if a patient requires such a service, the clinic will meet that need, but without a doubt, it is much more beneficial to address these conditions before they advance past the point of noninvasive care.

Generally speaking, SCI’s proprietary Heart Attack and Stroke Prevention process can be summarized in four steps:

(1) Initial diagnostic hematology

(2) Evaluation with SCI staff

(
3) Secondary diagnostic testing to assess existing risk factors

(4) Periodic follow-up consultation and evaluation

The purpose of this process is to discover the unique, personal combination of dietary needs, lifestyle changes and medications that will limit a patient’s risk for future cardiovascular disorders. By learning the genetic makeup and physiology of our patients.

DIAGNOSTIC HEMATOLOGY

The Skyline Cardiovascular Institute has partnered with Berkeley Heartlab to provide the front door to our Heart Attack and Stroke Prevention Center in the form of their Advanced CVD Profile.

Far more comprehensive than a traditional cholesterol test, a “Berkeley” allows SCI staff to see not only a patient’s levels of good, bad and total cholesterol but also much more detailed data that includes the size of the cholesterol particles, insulin resistance levels and the patient’s unique genetic markers that reflect the probability he or she may experience heart disease or cardiac illness.

In addition to the wealth of knowledge provided by the Berkeley, patients who taken advantage of this service have access to the local Berkeley Heartlab 4myheart program at no additional cost, including personal, individual meetings and group workshops with the local Clinical Educator, Renée Ranger.

If you would like to learn more about Berkeley Heartlab’s Advanced CVD Profile or you are a patient who is scheduled to have a “Berkeley” soon, please consult their Frequently Asked Questions.
